[znaczy się – in Polish: to have a meaning, to signify, to matter, to mean something, to mark, to bring something to notice]

What does it mean?

We seek new art; the art and its peripheries that have not (yet) been noticed but are beginning to make sense, are worth a mark not a passing glance. We seek significance and new ways of expressing it. We query the meaning and search for consequence.

Who are we?

The Foundation was first imagined, and is now run, by four women who decided that a passive appreciation of art was not enough. We have jobs, abundant interests, ample responsibilities and a gnawing need to step out of our comforts, take our experience and address some deficiencies of the ‘cultural capital of Poland’ where we live. Kraków admires and extends its gratitude to those who already earned high marks but pays little attention to beginners.

We meet many talented people who have much to say but are not sure how and where to start and where to find the audience. Without experience, portfolios and refined technical skills, talent will not break through and will vanish unnoticed. Any creative process needs work and effort – our role is to nurture, facilitate and support it.

Out of our professional experience working with writers, graphic artists and illustrators comes an understanding of their environment(s). We see the gaps and the imperfections. The work of the Foundation addresses them.

What do we want?

For the young and talented, we want to open a platform to show and share their work, to refine technical proficiency and to reach audiences. We want to excite the public about the new art and facilitate contacts between the artists and publishers, industry, business. We want to create an independent space for new art created outside existing networks and fashions. We want to educate aspiring writers about the craft, promote first efforts and help professionals who work with words as well as images to perfect their skills.

What do we do?

We occupy a space that connects words and visual images. We promote, show, sell, publish, look after, nurture, and support.

We organize creative writing courses, editing and typographic workshops, and competitions; we find and promote talents. Our interests focus on two-dimentional art, but we are open to 3D. We exhibit but also sell works of art. In short, we celebrate talented people and support their creativity.

How to help us?

We are open to cooperation and partnerships with foundations, associations and all alike institutions. We work on a premise that opportunities, effectiveness and satisfaction flourish in a community sharing interests and adventures in new art.
